Handmade Christmas gift ideas, by profile

A handmade Christmas gift idea, chosen to suit the person: a scarf, a scrunchie, a flower clip or a charm, all crocheted by hand, one by one, in Antibes.

A handmade Christmas gift idea is often what we look for when we want to give something that doesn't look like every other parcel under the tree. I crochet my accessories by hand, one by one, in Antibes. Rather than a long list, I suggest starting from the person you are giving to: what they wear, what they love, how they live. Here are my ideas, profile by profile.

Why give a handmade gift at Christmas?

A handmade object keeps a trace of the person who made it. With crochet, each piece takes shape stitch by stitch, and two pieces of the same design are never quite identical. The difference is slight, but it shows when the gift is unwrapped.

It is also a gift that stays. An accessory worn every day, a scrunchie, a scarf, a clip, is a quiet reminder of who gave it.

And there is a practical advantage: no size to guess. A scrunchie, a charm or a scarf can be worn without trying anything on. My headbands tie, so the size can be adjusted.

Which handmade gift for someone who is always cold?

A scarf is the first idea that comes to mind, and in December it is just right. ÉLIA came from a wish of my own: I have always hated scarves that tangle my hair, and I can't bear wool against my skin. So I crocheted it in acrylic, to keep warm without itching.

It is wider in the centre, where it forms a point, and narrow at the ends. It ties easily, without bulk around the neck. It is about 1 m long and comes in ten colours, from ecru to burgundy, by way of dark green and mustard yellow.

It is an idea worth keeping in mind for someone who finds wool itchy. It is made from 100 % acrylic yarn certified OEKO-TEX®.

A gift idea for someone who ties their hair up every day

A scrunchie is a small gift that really gets used. Mine are crocheted over a black elastic hidden inside, and they decorate the hair instead of just holding it. They are sold individually.

  • ANTHÉA, with ruffles, for someone who likes things that stand out. It comes in eight colour pairs, each crocheted in two shades.
  • IRIS, striped, for someone who prefers simplicity. Two shades alternating round after round, and nothing more. Eight pairs too, from black and white to burgundy and powder pink.

A tip for choosing the colour: look at the clothes the person wears most often, rather than their favourite colour. A scrunchie is worn with everything in the wardrobe.

Which gift for someone who loves flowers?

The CAMÉLIA clips are small, each topped with a crocheted flower. They keep the front of the face clear without tying up all the hair. I made them small on purpose: you change them as you change your mood. Their size also suits children's hair, which makes them an idea for a child in the family.

They come in five colours, including Sunflower, the only one with more pointed petals.

For a flower to keep with you all year round, there is also FLORE: a six-petal flower with a yellow heart, linked to a keyring by a small green stem. It is one of the very first pieces I created, and it comes in eleven colours.

Which small handmade gift for a gift exchange?

For a colleague, a gift exchange between friends or a little extra parcel, charms are easy to give. They hang from a bag handle, from keys, from the zip of a pouch, and weigh only a few grams.

  • CLÉMENTINE: seven mini fruits, strawberry, cherry, banana, lemon, watermelon, apple and peach.
  • NOVA: a little UFO that I crocheted one Christmas, as it happens. I spent ages looking for the right green. Today it comes in four colours.
  • FLORE, the flower keyring I mentioned above.

To know where and how to attach them, I explain it all in my article on bag charms.

A small handmade gift is noticed as much as a big one, because you can tell it was chosen.

And for someone whose tastes you don't know well?

A tie headband leaves little room for error. ALBA is in cotton, matt and soft. CLÉO has exactly the same shape, in mercerised cotton with a satin finish, a little dressier. The ties knot, the size adjusts, and it fits every head.

If, on the other hand, you have a precise idea, a colour that doesn't yet exist for a design, or a piece I don't offer, you can describe it to me on the custom project page. I look at every request, and I tell you what is possible.

When to order a handmade Christmas gift?

Each piece is made by hand, in small quantities. So it is best not to wait for the last days of December. The delivery estimate is shown in the basket, before you confirm the order: check it when you make your choice.

For the person receiving the gift, a word on care: scrunchies, headbands and the scarf are hand washed, at 30 °C at most; clips and charms don't go in the machine: a stain is dabbed with a barely damp cloth. The details are on each product page.

Frequently asked questions

An accessory that needs no size: a scrunchie, a charm or a tie headband. They are worn without trying on and suit everyone.

Which handmade Christmas gift for a child?

The CAMÉLIA flower clips are small, and their size suits children's hair.

Does a crocheted scarf itch?

It depends on the yarn. ÉLIA is crocheted in acrylic, precisely to keep warm without itching, even for someone who can't bear wool.

Early, because everything is made by hand. The delivery estimate is shown in the basket before you confirm the order.
